Tijana: Never let anyone who gave up on their dreams, make you give up from yours

tijana_-_to_the_sky_-_5Author: Sándor Mádi

This year Tijana will go to Denmark as a representative of Macedonia to compete with other 36 countries singers. Macedonia qualified for the Grand final 2 years ago with the help of Kaliopi, this time Tijana will have the chance to bring a good place for her country. I talked with her about her past, present and Eurovision song.

When did your singer career start?

On the very first day of my life! 🙂 Both of my parents are musicians, so I’ve been surrounded by music all the time. I’ve started playing cello at the age of 7 and later on in my life, got a degree in it, at the Faculty of Music in Skopje. Since then, I’ve been participated in many festivals and competitions, both as a cellist and singer. However, my first album as a singer was released in 2001.

This year you were selected to represent Macedonia at Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen. What does it mean for you?

It means a lot, really. I am very pleased and honored to have a chance to represent my country in Eurovision Song Contest.

How was your song (To the sky) created?

I’ve been collaborating with Darko Dimitrov (the composer of the song) successfully for many years and we he created To the Sky and played it to me, I immediately accepted it. He knows me very well and he made it for me.

What’s the message of your song?

If we come together, as lovers or friends, there is no mountain that we cannot climb, no goal that we cannot achieve.

Have you ever dreamed about being at the stage of Eurovision?

Of course! Eurovision is the largest competition of this type and I’ve always had a wish to be a part of it. Dreams come true, definitely. However, you have to work on them and never let anyone who gave up on their dreams, make you give up from yours.

Are you planning shooting a videoclip to your song?

We have just finished the shooting of the video for To the Sky and it will be released in April.

Are you working on the choreography of your Copenhagen perfomance?

I do, we are working very hard on this performance and we want to make a great party on the stage in Copenhagen.

Do you follow Eurovision Song Contest?

I do, I’m a big fan of Eurovision and watch it every year. I was very little when I watched it for the first time but I think it was back in ’86.

Who are your favourite singers? (In the world, not only Eurovision singers.)

There are so many great musicians and we need more lives to be able to hear all the great music but some of my favorite singers are Sting, Robbie Williams etc.

This year there will be 37 countries in the contest. Have you listened any of the songs? If yes, who are your main competitors and what are your favourite songs?

I have heard most of them and I follow all the news and updates. I wouldn’t like to favor anyone at the moment because it wouldn’t be fair to the other competitors. I’ll let the audience in Copenhagen decide on the favorite one.

What are your expectations, your main aims at Eurovision?

The main goal is to make all the people who believe in me (and support me) the proudest people in the world. I’ll try to make the audience believe in my energy as much as I do and show them that really is all about love, friendship and togetherness.

What inspires you?

Everything that surrounds me. My family, close friends … people inspire me. Classical music inspires me. I really love life.

What are your plans after Eurovision? Will you relax?

The Eurosong is the main plan at the moment but after it’s been finished, I’ll start making new songs and new plans. I’ll save the relax period for summer.

What would you like to send to the Hungarian readers and fans of Tijana?

Believe in yourself and your dreams (never give up on them!), believe in your IT and sky is the limit.
Many hugs and kisses! I love you!!!

Thanks for Tijana for this interview, and special thanks to Aleksandra Jovanovska.

We wish all the best for you in Copenhagen!
