Ruth Lorenzo: The song is talking about the message of hope and encouragement

ruth_lorenzo-portada_fotoAuthor: MÁDI Sándor

This year Ruth Lorenzo will represent Spain at Eurovision Song Contest. In the previous years Spain had various results, this time Ruth has the change to bring the victory to her country. I talked with her about her music carrier, plans and Eurovision song.

When did your singer career start?

I started singing when I was 2. At the age of 5 I started singing opera after watching Maria Callas and Montserrat Caballé on TV. From that moment I knew that I had to sing for the rest of my life.

Like many Eurovision artists, you were also discovered as a talented singer in The X Factor. Do you believe in the importance of these talent shows?

They are a great platform for singers that are starting. The X Factor was one of the best experiences of my life (professionally and personally). But after The X Factor there is so much work to be done. I believe that you have to work every single day of your life in order to succeed in the music business.

This year you were selected to represent Spain at Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen. What were your first impressions when you heared your name as a winner? What does it mean for you?

I could not believe it. It is a dream come true! I literally did not believe I had won… It’s a dream come true. I had thought about it for so long and now I can’t believe it’s me who is representing my country at Eurovision. It’s an honour…

How was your song created? Was it written especially for Eurovision?

No. I wrote it 3 years ago while I was living in London. I was going through a really bad moment and I was sitting in a Pizza shop in London, and it was raining. I felt really depressed and then thought ’so what if it rains, in life you have to carry on!!’

What’s the message of your song, Dancing in the rain?

The message says that even if everything seems to be against you, you need to carry on living, fighting… It’s a message of hope and encouragement.

Do you follow Eurovision Song Contest? If yes, since when?

Yes!!!!! I’ve followed it all my life! I can’t remember the first year I watched it….

Who are your favourite singers?

I love Freddie Mercury and Maria Callas. I also love Muse.

This year there will be 37 countries in the contest. Do you have your favourites?

I have listened to most of them!! I love the UK and Irish entries. And of course I love Conchita!! I also like the Hungarian song this year, I think you have big possibilities of winning! I play it on my iPod 😉

You already have a video, which in you look beautiful. What was the concept behind it?

Thanks!!!!! The concept behind the music video is the message of the song. I wanted to express the message in a really artistic way.

Are you still working on the choreography? Is it going to be different we saw at Spanish National Final?

I’m still working on what I’m going to do on the Eurovision stage!!

What are your expectations, your main aims at Eurovision?

My main aim is to give the performance of my life… The rest is not in my hands…

What inspire you?

Life!! Life is the best inspiration you can possibly have!

What are your plans after Eurovision? Will you relax?

Relax? What does that word mean?

What would you like to send to the Hungarian readers and fans of Ruth Lorenzo?

I hope you enjoy ’Dancing in the Rain’ and thanks so much for your support! See you in Denmark!

Thank you for Ruth Lorenzo for this interview and special thanks to Daniel Valls Halling (Ruth Lorenzo Management).

We wish you all the best in Copenhagen!
